Isla

This is Isla, one of my favourite original characters I've come up with, and she's the other half of Harper.

I said that my project for summer last year was to draw all of my original characters and work on their designs, I think I only managed to draw Harper. These two have a rough back story/plot line thing I'm working on, but I don't think it'll ever get further than my compute for now.

Kiss kiss

Messing around with watercolours today, this was going well until I couldn't find my inking pen, so I went round the outlines in pencil and it looks bad.

Pro-tip: don't be lazy, it never pays off.

I might redo this in Photoshop at some point

Film Challenge

So once a year at my Uni we have Film Challenge, we get split into teams, given an genre, a prop, a character, some lines of dialogue and a week to animate, which sounds simple enough, but now I'm in my final year we are being assessed on it and it is the most stressful thing ever but hopefully it'll be rewarding.
I made this paper cut badge of our character cheering our team on (because we need all the support we can get)

This is just a quick sketch I did yesterday afternoon, it was supposed to be a flouncy Georgian lady, but it sort of turned into Marie Antoinette. She looks like she's got really short legs, but she's actually sitting on a seat, also her dress is not nearly big and poofy enough, I'll have to fix that later. Sorry about the scan quality/terrible Photoshop editing, my scanner is a bit rubbish.

Monday, 3 September 2012

This is a coloured version of a doodle I did at work last night on the back of a receipt.

I'm not dead, I just have a lot on at the moment, deadlines and such. One of my animations is playing on TV here in NZ which I'm pretty stoked about. It's a 10 second ad that's running for 10 weeks, I'll upload it as soon as legally possible. I should really upload more of my animations...

Decoration

Just a doodle I drew instead of unpacking my room. She's based off of Rosie the Riveter although she is the wrong way round and her hand is totally rubbish.

Enjoy.

Eva and Saffron

What cuties. I figured seeing as I hadn't drawn any sparkle dogs in a long long while, I'd finally get around to drawing these two together. I find it hard to keep track of which of my dogs I've drawn or not, because I don't upload most of them. I'll colour this at some point

Vic WIP

Oh lordy, its kinda huge, and it's not even the whole image haha. Its Vic Fuentes from the band Pierce the Veil. He is so gorgeous and has fantastic hair, I just had to draw him. It's not finished, his face still looks a little funny and there's a heap more I can do to make it better.

I'm planning to do at least one pencil portrait over my two week break, but I'm moving house, making myself a cardigan and catching up on my sleep, so we'll see how that pans out.

Cute People

Two for the price of one! How about that? The top sketch is one I did earlier this year, in about April I think, and the second is one I did a couple of days ago of Lisbeth Salander, one of the main characters in the Millennium series by Steig Larsson. I watched the English version of 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' a few weeks back and it was awesome, I'm currently reading the books and I want to watch the Swedish versions of the films because I adore Noomi Rapace.

Cave of the storm nymphs

It was my 21st birthday last Friday (woo!) and my parents bought me several large glossy art books, needless to say I nearly died when I opened them. One of them is Victorian Painting by Lionel Lambourne and its the most amazing book I've ever read in my life, its 500 pages of pure awesome. I found this painting in the 'Nudes and Classical influences' section and it blew my mind. It's called Cave of the Storm Nymphs by Sir Edward John Poynter, have a look at it, it's truly fantastic.

Anyway, I decided to do a study of the nymphs because I haven't done a speed paint or a study in a long while, I wasn't going to upload this but sencilsketches asked me to. So here you go WIP I of my Storm Nymph study.

Space Bear

He was going to be a sun bear (my favourite) but his space suit covered his markings, so I made him a generic looking bear instead. Then again, it doesn't really matter what species of bear he is, because he is in space.

Sky

This started off being a simple speedpaint practice and both paintings were done on a single layer each (I don't recommend it) The Pegasus was my friend Natalie's idea, she said I should paint a pnk sky with a mountain and a pegasus, so I did, then we added the two to my lightning painting as well. Fun times!

So we have been having some server issues at Uni over the past few week, and we keep losing access to it (which can get very frustrating when you're animating digitally and are trying to save your work) so in between working on my group project and waiting for the student server to not crash and die, I've been doodling circus animals. I always loved the giant tower of elephants in Dumbo, so I tried to draw something similar but it ended up just being these two. I really like this one so I'll be looking up some reference pictures and colouring this one properly for sure (:

Volcano dragon!

This is the rough sketch and the final version of a quick dragon drawing I did last week.
Nothing too spectacular, but you can see a bigger version of the finished image here if you like.

Tuesday, 24 April 2012

I kinda get the feeling I'm uploading this for the sake of uploading something new, and this did only take me 10 minutes all up, but still, I needed cheering up because I have not had the best beginning to the week this week (but that's another story for another time) I've been really busy with my group project at Uni, and I've had virtually no free time even for doodling, which has been a little frustrating.

In case you cannot tell by my fabulously anatomically correct drawings, these guys are (from the top) a Gouldian Finch, a Sun Conure/Sun Parakeet and a Chinchilla. I have inherited my mums 'crazy bird lady' gene which is only just starting to show itself, but while my mum is mad keen of wild and native New Zealand birds, I'm much more partial to the brighter birds, especially parrots (I've wanted a pet Macaw since I was very little) There's actually a huge long list of pets I'd like, including these three and a macaw, there's also an axolotl or two, a rat, a ferret, more guinea pigs, a cat, a canary and some zebra finches just to name a few.

Pretty girls with pretty coloured hair. I'd love to dye my hair green, but it wouldn't suit me at all.

I just noticed how tiny the bottom girl's hand is, it's funny how you don't notice silly mistakes til your just about to upload something.

Tuesday, 3 April 2012

So my blog is supposed to be just for my sketches and doodles and the like, but this sort of goes with the Joan Jett portrait I did, so I figured I'd post it here too.

It's Lita Ford, she was the lead guitarist in the Runaways and she went on to have a very successful solo career. This photo is from sometime during the 80s (long after the Runaways had disbanded)

She is so gorgeous, if you don't know who she is I suggest you look her up.

Sunday, 1 April 2012

Oh alright, have another post (:

It's Joan Jett and Cherie Currie from the band the Runaways. This was the initial sketch for a coloured piece, but I liked the way this looked so I thought I'd upload it as it is.

They have no faces because I drew this in class and we don't have access to the internet, so I had no reference and the faces I was drawing looked so strange I figured it'd probably be better to just do without.

This looks nothing like I wanted it to, it's rather disappointing.

I downloaded the beta version of Photoshop CS6 (which is fantastic, you should all go get it. All you need is an Adobe account) and there are lots of new brushes (compared to CS4 which is the version I have) Ive been messing around with a few of them, but the pencil style ones are my favourite so far.

It's a very young Joan Jett in case you couldn't tell. I should have spent longer on this, but I was getting frustrated so I thought I should leave it here in case I butchered Joan's lovely face any more.

Wednesday, 28 March 2012

As the date suggests, I drew this a little while ago, but I forgot which of my USB sticks I had saved it on, which is why I am only uploading this now.

I don't know what's happening with her front foot, or her very flat hand. I may (if I ever get around to it) clean this one up properly, but I kinda like this one as it is for now.

Monday, 19 March 2012

I felt like doing a traditional portrait, seeing as I haven't done any serious pencil drawings at all this year. This didn't turn out how I wanted due to the fact that it is 10:15pm, I'm tired and I only had one rather blunt pencil handy and no sharpener in sight. Oh well.

It's Joel Piper, the drummer for the band Confide, who are no longer together. He is a lot better looking than this in real life, and his eyes are less wonky.

Wednesday, 14 March 2012

Just a few doodles I've done this week plus a cute animation of a mouse (:

This is the beginnings of a digital portrait (sort of) of Andy Biersack, the lead singer of the band Black Veil Brides. They're really awesome, and I love their 80's-glam-metal-revival look

Started off as a pin-up doodle and turned into a drawing of a girl holding a Cardinal. Not quite sure how that happened, but then again, I'm never sure of anything when I'm drawing.

Really rough sketch of a Rockabilly-esque girl. I've seen several variations of that hairstyle and I absolutely love it. Her facial expression doesn't sit right with me, I think it's her eye. I tried flipping the canvas, but I still couldn't see what needed fixing so I left it as is for now.

I've done another (albeit very very rough) animation, this time of a mouse hiding in a teacup. Its up on my deviantArt page, and you'll find it if you follow this link. You don't need an account to view it, and if you have any comments feel free to post them here!

Friday, 9 March 2012

Two posts in one night! I'm on a roll.
I want to say, ignore the date on the last image I posted, it is quite clearly not 2011 any more. I think I may be stuck in the past.

This is -obviously- a tree that I drew earlier today, I need more practice drawing backgrounds, the perspective is a little wonky. As with pretty much everything I draw, I didn't intend for it to end up like this. There was supposed to be a girl leaning or sitting on the tree, but once I started drawing it, it took on a life of its own.

Also, if anyone is curious, I animated Toothless from How to Train your Dragon, yesterday. I can't upload it here because I don't have a suitable YouTube account to upload it to, I'm getting around to making a new one for all my animations, but for now, I shall have to give you the link to my deviantArt page if you want to see the animation.

Doodle from tonight that I liked enough to colour properly. I love girls with crazy coloured hair, blue especially.

Tuesday, 6 March 2012

So seeing as my drawings all seem to be failing this evening, I figured I'd colour a doodle of Toothless. I still haven't been able to figure out the correct contrast settings for my monitor, and I thing they're still too high, so I'm sorry if the colours are a little strange, he looks rather dark...

Sunday, 4 March 2012

Just a little something to prove this weekend wasn't a complete waste of my drawing time. I've been so busy with things that aren't art related, it frustrates me when I don't get to draw.

Tuesday, 28 February 2012

So at the request of one of my friends, here (finally) is my band Sleepless Futures. I came up with them a couple of years ago. Roman looks too girly and Matt looks too young, but essentially, this is my band.

I don't know why I chose the ugliest colour to do this in, oh well.

Also, if you're clever and know all of the band members I obsess over, you'll be able to tell who each person is inspired by (except Matt, he is just generic drummer number one)

Roman: is Beau Bokan from Blessthefall (mostly just his hairstyle)
Sidney: is Telle Smith from The Word Alive (again, mostly the hair)
Seth: is Levi Benton and Jerod Boyd from Miss May I
Jak: is a strange combination of Mikey Way from My Chemical Romance and Travis from we The Kings (but not ginger)
Grant: is very much Andy Glass from We Came as Romans and Yu from cinema Bizarre

I started writing a story to go with them, but it never really got anywhere. A couple of them have girlfriends though, if that counts for anything.

This is some of what I drew today, in between my course work. I chose my favourite ones, the others were too hideous to upload.

Friday, 24 February 2012

So seeing as there is only a few days left of February, I thought I'd share my life drawings from this month, we focused mainly on the shoulders, back and arms which was useful.

We had a new model this morning (the one in the sketches below the guy with the stick) she was so skinny, and super gorgeous! She had the most fabulous legs, I ended up spending more time drawing her legs than her arms haha.

Sorry for the mediocre picture quality, these are all A3 size and my scanner isn't big enough so I had to photograph them with my iPod.

Thursday, 23 February 2012

Peekaboo!
Just a sketch I did in class today, it's pretty terrible, don't look too closely haha. I've been on a bit of a mermaid/selkie kick at the moment, so expect more pretty girls with tails, whether they're fish or seal (:

Wednesday, 15 February 2012

Alan Ashby from the band Of Mice & Men, both he, and the band are amazing. This is just a quick doodle that took about three seconds in between a couple of other drawings I'm working on. His hair is fabulous, I couldn't not draw it. Plus I have a bit of a thing for red heads...
Aaron Gillespie (when he was still in Underoath), Paloma Faith, Travis Clark from We the Kings, Eric Lambert from blessthefall and of course Alan (:

PS. I'd love for you to check out my deviantArt page!

Monday, 6 February 2012

I finally got round to making myself a blog, yay! It's about time too, I've been meaning to do it for about three years, and seeing as it's my final year of my animation course this year I figured it was high time I made my blog.

I confess that I am fairly stupid when it comes to all things technical, so my page is probably going to look a little strange to start off with, just until I get my head around all the formatting and stuff.

This blog is going to be mainly for my sketches and doodles, because I have a lot of them, and I don't particularly want to post them on my deviantArt page along with my more serious/finished pieces. This blog's just a bit of fun, we'll have to see what happens with it haha.
